How it all Began

Patience, Determination & Distinction
Landscaping Born in the Spirit of NYC

We are a family-owned NYC landscaping company homegrown in Brooklyn since 1982 and faithfully serving the community to this day. Like so many of New York’s most successful businesses, SRG Landscaping has its roots in the spirit of America — found at the heart of NYC.

Co-founder of SRG Landscaping, Mr. S , immigrated to the United States when he was only 18 years old. Back in his home country, Mr. S grew up on a farm and loved to garden even as a boy. With a green thumb on both hands, Mr. S future was a seed planted. Now it just needed time to grow.

Arriving in NYC in the 1970s, Mr. S  joined a tree removal company and began learning the tools of the trade. The work was hard. The language barrier was real. But New York City, like the melting pot that it is, embraced Mr. S in the way it embraces so many — the New York way.

Mr. S didn’t just learn skills and how to speak English, he developed grit and tenacity. When he moved on to a landscaping company a few years later, Mr. S brought his indomitable work ethic with him. He stayed with the company for several years and decided to start his own landscaping business along the way.

The only problem, Mr. S barely had the resources and equipment to run a business. He continued working full-time as an employee, and in the evenings, would make his way to the few contracts he could get. Mr. S had no car or work vehicle. And to the astonishment of his friends and coworkers, Mr. S would pack up his equipment in the back of a cab, and go from contract to contract in a taxi after work.

Some people called him crazy. Others just watched and waited for him to give up. But Mr. S never did. He showed up to work day after day, and afterward, would run his landscaping business out of the back of a cab. His contracts slowly increased, and the workload got heavier. Meanwhile, Samuel’s boss kept a watchful eye on his loyal employee, and on one eventful morning, surprised Samuel with a gift — his very own work van.

As you can imagine, the rest is history. Mr. S went on to meet his wife, Sophia, with whom she shared a passion for the business. While he did lawn work, she specialized in flower installation and design. Together, they built a reputation for quality that inspired clients with ideas and the confidence to create very personal, unique environments.

Landscaping New York was their passion, and as the years went on, The GM Family passed the business on to future generations so they could carry the trustworthy, family-oriented, and distinctive reputation of excellence they had proudly built by hand.
